The Listening Table is a coffee table which reacts to ambient sounds by displaying graphical patterns. Microphones located on each side of the table trigger streams of particles when sufficient sound levels are detected. Particles are attracted towards the middle of the table, where they can fall and get trapped, slowly fading away over time and creating a short term memory of conversations and sonic events in the vicinity.

The table's display has been assembled using the modular LED tiles developed for the Interactive Bus Stop project. The table features a three-dimensional display surface made out of 6,000 white LEDs driven by custom electronics and software. Special thanks go out to Pranav Mistry for his help in building the structure.
